Corresponding with PWInsider.com, both Figure Four Weekly Online and the Pro Wrestling Torch are reporting that Serena has been released from World Wrestling Entertainment.

While specific details surrounding her abrupt departure from the organization have yet to be disclosed, it said that she was let go in a disciplinary measure. The Pro Wrestling Torch cryptically notes that she was not "living out" her Straight Edge Society persona in public.

Luna Vachon, 48, the daughter of Butcher and niece of Mad Dog Vachon and a well-known wrestler in her own right, was found dead this morning at her mother's home. She was staying with her mother after her own house was burned down in a fire just recently. Those are the only details we have at the moment but we will update later this afternoon.

Hardcore indie star Bailey passes away

Combat Zone Wrestling reported today that Joseph Carl "J.C." Bailey passed away this morning at his home at the age of 27. No other details were given.

Bailey worked reguarly for hardcore promotions such as CZW and IWA Mid South for nearly a decade and was noted for his willingness to take punishment and his resilience in the ring.

Itse tykkäsin JC Baileysta varsin paljon ja sijoitin hänet jopa sille parin vuoden takaiselle top 100-listallenikin. Ehdottomasti yksi viihdyttävimmistä IWA-MS:ssä / CZW:ssä nimeä tehneistä UV-painijoista. Ei noin nuorena pitäisi lähteä.

Eikös JC:llä ollut aika pahoja ongelma päihteiden ja lain kanssa viime aikoina. Taisi vankilassakin käväistä, mikäli oikein muistan. Ei sinänsä mikään yllättävä uutinen. Oli JC Bailey kuitenkin viihdyttävä ja taitava HC-mieheksi, joten hieman jään kaipaamaan.

WWE is currently negotiating to sign a woman would be the largest diva in company history.

We’ve received word that WWE has signed or is close to signing female independent wrestler Isis The Amazon to a developmental deal.
Isis is 6 foot 9 inches and besides indy wrestling, has done some modeling and acting work. Isis also has participated in a week-long evaluation at WWE’s FCW developmental territory.

Isis has been in attendance at as many as two WWE developmental shows this month. A fan in attendance at this week’s show in Fort Myers, Florida says Isis had to ask FCW officials if it was okay to take photos with fans.

To put Isis into perspective, she is just a few inches shorter than Big Show.

Tuo WWE:n asenne muuten häiritsee taas. Heidän uutinen Luna Vachonin kuolemasta korosti lähinnä sitä, että Vachon kyllä paini 90-luvulla WWE:ssä, mutta ei todellakaan ole käynyt siellä yli 10 vuoteen. Ehkä tällaiset jutut tulee tulkittua välillä tahallaan väärin etenkin Lindan käsittämättömien Cade-kommenttien jälkeen, mutta WWE ei ainakaan auta, kun on usein ensisijaisesti julistamassa syyttömyyttään ja vasta sitten vaikuttaa surevan tapahtunutta, jos muistaa. Vachonin kuolema ei toki ole millään tavalla WWE:n vika.

Mutta niin, Vachonin ja Baileyn lisäksi muutaman viime päivän aikana tapahtui jopa neljä muutakin painikuolemaa. He olivat toki jo vanhoja, eivätkä nykyään niin tunnettuja, mutta aikoinaan taas merkittävämpiä ja menestyneempiä kuin Vachon tai Bailey, joten ansaitsevat kai huomiota vaikka nyt sitten kuoltuaan. Kukaan heistä ei ollut hirveän tuttu minulle, mutta Kotetsu Yamamotoa näki monesti New Japanin showeissa vielä nykyäänkin ja hän oli aina hirveän sympaattinen, joten hänen kuolemansa tuntui ikävimmältä.

Kotetsu Yamamoto passes away

A true legend of the Japanese scene and especially New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Kotetsu Yamamoto, has died at the age of 68. Yamamoto debuted for the old Japan Pro in 1963 and would go on to form a popular tag team with another New Japan mainstay and former boss of the Makai Club, Kantaro Hoshino, called the Yamaha Brothers.

After retiring from active service in April, 1980, Yamamoto began to focus on training young wrestlers in New Japan’s dojo, where he gained a reputation for his tough but effective training, which helped forge arguably pro wrestling’s finest dojo/training facility. Yamamoto trained some of New Japan’s greatest stars and even into the 2000s he was involved in the dojo.

Kotetsu also worked as a commentator for New Japan’s World Pro Wrestling on TV Asahi and in more recent years, SXW on J SPORTS ESPN, where there were often comedy features involving him.

Yamamoto was someone you couldn’t go long without seeing in some form on New Japan shows. Always present, often smiling, he was one of those faces you just become to associate with a company and never expect to disappear.

R.I.P. Kotetsu Yamamoto, you will be badly missed…

Northwest legend Borne passes away

Anthony Osborne aka Tough Tony Borne passed away this morning at his home at the age of 83.

Borne, the father of Matt Borne aka Doink the Clown, had been in poor health of late and passed away just as his son was leaving the house to go on a flight in Dallas.

Tony Borne was an international wrestling star, most famous in the Pacific Northwest as one of the area's all-time legends. The late 60s tag team of Tough Tony Borne & Lonnie Mayne (before he became known as Moondog Mayne) was probably considered the greatest in the history of wrestling in that area. The pair held the Pacific Northwest tag team title 11 times.

Borne also had great success as a small heel in Texas and was one of the most successful American wrestlers to ever work in Mexico.

After his career as a full-time wrestler ended by the early 70s, Borne was well known running a real estate business out of Milwaukie, OR. For a short period of time, he was also the father-in-law of Buddy Rose.

Early All Japan star Geesink passes away

Anton Geesink, who was one of the original stars of All Japan Pro Wrestling, passed away today in the Netherlands at the age of 76.

Geesink was a world class judoka from his teenage years and became a celebrity in Japan when he won the gold medal in judo in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, beating the Japanese in their own sport. He was a legend in that sport, winning 20 European championships as a heavyweight.

When Giant Baba formed All Japan Pro Wrestling, he signed Geesink, who was 6-6 and 300 pounds, to a three-year contract making him one of the highest paid pro wrestlers in the world at the time. His early matches got major mainstream media coverage as one of the first Olympic gold medalists to become a major pro wrestling star. Geesink was trained by The Funk Brothers, and wrestled in main events, often teaming with Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta and/or The Destroyer, against many of the biggest names of the era like Bruno Sammartino, Fred Blassie, Don Leo Jonathan, The Funk Brothers, Killer Kowalski, Gene Kiniski and numerous others.

Geesink never was much as a pro wrestler and rarely wrestled after his first contract expired.

In recent years, he was a member of the Netherlands Olympic committee.

Mickey Garagiola passes away

Mickey Garagiola passed away this morning at age 89. He was the longtime television ring announcer for "Wrestling at the Chase" in St. Louis. Mickey's brother Joe was the first commentator for the show on KPLR-TV, and Mickey became the ring voice starting in 1969. He was already a well-known character working as a waiter at Ruggeri's Restaurant, where all of the sports figures in St. Louis hung out. When Larry Matysik became the commentator in 1972, he and Mickey often had relaxed, comical interplay until the program ended in 1983.

Mickey's most famous moment might have been mistakenly declaring Ted DiBiase as "the new World Heavyweight Champion" after DiBiase pinned titleholder Harley Race in a tag team match on television. Totally unplanned and unexpected, the resultant uproar and correction helped make the Race-DiBiase rivalry red hot in St. Louis. Behind the scenes, Mickey spent hours of time working with special needs youth and young adults. In the St. Louis area, he was a hugely popular figure who helped keep the image of professional wrestling strong. He often appeared at independent cards or Matysik's book signings in the past few years, and stayed in touch with likes of the late Gene Kiniski, perhaps Mickey's alltime favorite.
