PWInsider kirjoitti:SpikeTV issued the following press release, announcing that former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson had signed a deal with the network that would see him appear for TNA Wrestling and Bellator MMA, as well as his own reality project.

Jackson was a huge star for PRIDE and UFC and was featured in the A-Team feature film adaptation as BA Baracas, the character made famous by Mr. T. Jackson appeared in characters, sort of, on an episode of Monday Night Raw to promote the film.

Jackson last fought for UFC in January of this year. His deal, on the surface, appears to be structured similar to a deal signed by King Mo Lawal to work for both Bellator and TNA. Thus far, Lawal has trained in TNA developmental OVW and wrestled there, but has not wrestled for TNA, instead making several non-wrestling appearances thus far.

The complete release reads:

QUINTON “RAMPAGE” JACKSON JOINS FORCES WITH BELLATOR MMA, TNA WRESTLING AND SPIKE TV FOR LANDMARK PARTNERSHIP

Los Angeles, CA - June 4, 2013 – Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the mixed martial arts icon and action-movie star has agreed to a monumental, multi-year partnership with Spike TV, Bellator MMA, and TNA Wrestling it was jointly announced today by Kevin Kay, Spike TV President, Bjorn Rebney, Bellator CEO, and Dixie Carter, TNA Wrestling President.

The landmark partnership includes Jackson competing in Bellator MMA, along with joining the superstars of TNA’s “Impact Wrestling,” which includes fellow Bellator fighter “King Mo” Lawal.

Spike TV will also create a special reality series featuring Rampage that will lead into his debut with Bellator, along with other entertainment initiatives.

“Rampage is a true superstar both inside and outside the MMA cage” Bellator CEO & Chairman Bjorn Rebney said. “The partnership that we’ve created with Quinton is unlike anything that’s ever been done in the sports & entertainment arena and Rampage is the perfect athlete/entertainer to carry it off.”

"Rampage is one of the best known MMA fighters competing today," said Carter. "He is a true cross-over star and his talent, big personality and popularity among a wide range of fans make him an extraordinary fit for our company,”

“We are thrilled to create this opportunity for one of the greatest athletes and personalities in MMA,” said Kevin Kay, Spike TV President. “Rampage is a proven ratings driver who brings incredible star power to both Bellator and TNA.”

Jackson (32-11) joins Bellator as a former Pride and UFC champion, having last fought on Spike TV in September 2007, in a fight vs. Dan Henderson that drew nearly 6 million viewers, making it one of the most watched fights in the sport’s history. In 2009, Jackson served as a coach on Spike’s “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights,” the highest-rated season by far in franchise history, delivering over 3 million viewers per week. Rampage joins a Bellator Light Heavyweight division that features “King Mo,” Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Emanuel Newton, Attila Vegh and Vladimir Matyushenko.

The charismatic fighter from Memphis, TN began his professional MMA career in 1999 and established his legacy across the globe through epic battles with MMA titans including Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Jon Jones and Dan Henderson among others.

Jackson starred in the 2010 blockbuster film, “The A-Team,” as “B.A. Baracus,” the character made famous by Mr. T in the television series. Jackson’s other film credits include “Confessions of a Pit Fighter,” “Fire With Fire,” “Never Surrender,” and “Miss March.”

More information regarding this signing will be made available at Wednesday’s press conference. Details on the press conference will be released shortly.
TNA:n selostustiimissä paikkansa vakiinnuttanut Todd Kenely on menettänyt työnsä.
PWInsider kirjoitti:TNA Announcer Todd Kenely has been dropped from the promotion's announce team. TNA sources indicate Kenely was informed by the promotion at the Slammiversary PPV, which as of now, was his final appearance.

Kenely was brought into the promotion by Executive Producer Eric Bischoff, who had used him on several previous projects. He debuted for the company in October 2012.

The plan going forward is to revert back to the old Impact Wrestling two man announcing team of Mike Tenay and Taz.

TNA sources indicated the door was left open for Kenely to be used down the line if a role was found for him. He was not dropped because of unhappiness with his work, but rather a decision to streamline the announcing team and he was not under contract and had the least seniority.

Olen aistivinani ilmassa vienon workin tuoksun.

WNS kirjoitti:According to a multiple reports, Paul Heyman and Zeb Colter (Dutch Mantel) helped re-write Monday's WWE Raw script with Vince McMahon backstage prior to the show. Stephanie McMahon reportedly played "little to no" role in the re-crafting of the episode. Heyman has been consulted before on the Raw script and Mantel has a writing background having wrote for TNA in the early 2000s.
Monday's Raw was considered one of the best of 2013 and the influence of Heyman and Mantel hopefully will not go unnoticed.
Paul Heyman ja "Zeb Colter" ilmeisesti uudelleenkirjoitti koko Raa'an ennen show'n alkua.

Alla siis päivitetty katsaus sadan suurimman draw'n listaan.
Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

This is the updated list of the 100 biggest draws in pro wrestling history, taking this year into account.

This is done based on a year-by-year look at the biggest draws, to normalize between guys around in hot and cold periods and to factor out things like the economy and ebbs and flows with the business. It’s based on being a top draw as well as having longevity at the top, which is why Steve Austin isn’t top five, Ultimate Warrior is only No. 84 and Bill Goldberg, Junkyard Dog and Kerry Von Erich aren’t on the list.

We also give added emphasis to guys who dominated their eras and completely carried the business. Keep in mind this list would be unfair to those in Mexico pre-1988 because there are not complete records available. Japanese are hurt to a degree due to lack of major arenas and not figuring that historically they charged much higher ticket prices until the late 90s, although the top Japanese names do make the list.

1. Jim Londos.
2. Bruno Sammartino.
3. Lou Thesz.
4. Bill Longson.
5. Hulk Hogan.
6. Ed “Strangler” Lewis.
7. Argentina Rocca.
8. Ric Flair.
9. Buddy Rogers.
10. Joe Stecher.
11. Dick the Bruiser.
12. The Sheik.
13. HHH.
14. Killer Kowalski.
15. Bob Backlund.
16. Andre the Giant.
17. The Rock.
18. John Cena.
19. Whipper Billy Watson and Stanislaus Zbyszko (tied).
21. Yvon Robert.
22. John Pesek.
23. The Undertaker.
24. Frank Gotch.
25. Konnan.
26. Mistico.
27. Everette Marshall.
28. Gene Kiniski.
29. Ed Don George.
30. Harley Race.
31. Dick Shikat.
32. Gus Sonnenburg.
33. Steve Austin and Antonio Inoki (tied).
35. Danno O’Mahoney, Johnny Valentine, and Randy Savage (tied).
38. Perro Aguayo Sr., Shawn Michaels, and Gorgeous George.
41. Freddie Blassie and The Crusher.
43. Superstar Billy Graham and Shinya Hashimoto.
45. Ray Steele and Dory Funk Jr.
47. Verne Gagne and Ray Stevens.
49. Kane.
50. Pat O’Connor and Randy Orton.
52. Keiji Muto, Rikidozan, Dusty Rhodes, and Sandor Szabo.
56. Vincent Lopez.
57. Bret Hart and Wladek Zbyszko.
59. Edouard Carpentier and Pedro Morales.
61. Bobo Brazil, Earl Caddock, Jerry Lawler, Miguel Perez, Road Warriors, and Chris Jericho.
67. Perro Aguayo Jr., Primo Carnera, Stan Hansen, Big Show, and El Santo.
72. Kurt Angle, Man Mountain Dean, Wlasislow Talum, Maurice “French Angel” Tillet, and Fritz Von Erich.
77. Batista, Jim Browning, Dr. Jerry Graham, Ultimo Guerrero, Kenta Kobashi, and Ivan Koloff.
83. Yukon Eric and Sgt. Slaughter.
85. Ultimate Warrior and Ernie Ladd.
87. Giant Baba, Henri DeGlane, Eddie Graham, George Hackenschmidt, and Paul Orndorff.
92. Chris Benoit, Cien Caras, Wilbur Snyder, and Genichiro Tenryu.
96. Bobby Managoff, Nobuhiko Takada, and Brock Lesnar.
99. Nick Bockwinkel, Bronko Nagurski, Roddy Piper, Bob Sapp, Hans Schmidt, and Frank Sexton.

Of the top 100, the highest ranker not in the Hall of Fame is Mistico (26), who becomes a very interesting case study given where he currently stands. After that it’s Dick Shikat (31), followed by Danno O’Mahoney (35), Kane (49), Randy Orton (50), Vincent Lopez (56), Pedro Morales (59), Miguel Perez Sr. (61), Perro Aguayo Jr., Big Show and Primo Camera (67), Man Mountain Dean, Wlasislow Talum and Maurice Tillet (72) and Jim Browning, Dr. Jerry Graham, Ultimo Guerrero and Ivan Koloff (77).

Shikat is an interesting character, since he was a major part of history in the 30s, perhaps in not a good way. He and O’Mahoney are historically linked since Shikat shot on and stole the title from O’Mahoney. This pretty much led to O’Mahoney no longer being a top draw, and because of how the news coverage was at the time, hurt pro wrestling badly in many parts of the country.

Kane and Orton are current guys and it’s a different ball game today, with the brand drawing and all, but this does show they’ve had the longevity on top and as top tier stars. In the case of Kane, people don’t think of it as much because he’s been often in the middle, but he’s had a lot of successful runs.

Orton is a guy who was pushed and protected, and is a major star, but was never “the” major star, although there was a long period, really until the past year, where almost every PPV featured Cena and/or Orton in a title match.

Lopez was a big California star before television. Morales was WWWF champion for three years, and was also a major California star before that, but he’s hurt in other ways. As WWWF champion, he was actually a better Madison Square Garden draw than anyone up until that point, even Bruno Sammartino, but he didn’t draw as well in the other cities and the company practically begged Sammartino to come back at the end of 1973, so it’s hard to call the run a success. Plus, Morales, outside of his huge New York ethnic base, was always resented as the guy who replaced Sammartino.

Perez Sr. is not a Hall of Famer as a single, but Argentina Rocca & Miguel Perez as a team absolutely belong. But Rocca is already in.

Aguayo Jr. is hurt because he’s current and because Mexico has gone down, and his star has faded even though he’s still on top.

Big Show is very much like Kane, only for not quite as long, but he’s probably had more high profile runs. Carnera was a poor worker, and really just an attraction because he was the world heavyweight champion in boxing when there was only one and when the holder was one of the biggest names in sports, even though Carnera was really a gimmick muscular giant, almost a Khali or Andre of his day. He didn’t get into pro wrestling until his boxing days were over and he was left broke, in 1946. He was given a winning streak gimmick until, for world title credibility sake, Lou Thesz pinned him. He was booked much like Andre and while not much as a wrestler because he was old, he was a legitimate household name in that era and continued to wrestle, and mostly headline, until retiring in 1962.

Dean was the original fat man attraction, the role later used by people like the McGuire Twins, Happy Humphrey and most notably Haystacks Calhoun. Calhoun, like Dean before him, was one of the most well known pro wrestlers during the 60s and early 70s, to the point that when sports announcers covering games talk pro wrestling, his name is mentioned right up there with Bruno Sammartino, Argentina Rocca, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan.

Tillet, who was not tall like Andre but with his acromegaly, had the same exaggerated proportions, with the huge head, hands and feet, was not strong wrestler, but was a big drawing card in the early 40s billed as the world’s ugliest man.

Koloff was actually a great worker in his day and had a long career. Browning should be the subject of a history piece at some point. He was one of the great shooters of his era, arguably all-time. Lou Thesz ranked him top five history and noted that Strangler Lewis told him that Browning was the one guy from the era that he couldn’t beat (Browning was 12 years younger than Lewis). Browning was made world champion, but cut down in his prime as he started to go blind at the age of 31. He continued to wrestle with diminished eyesight, but then started having severe health problems with his heart, liver and intestines, and lost 70 pounds. He was only 33 when he died in 1936.

Ultimo Guerrero has been one of Mexico’s best workers for years and was the prime opponent for Mistico in his heyday. He’s hurt by being current. Jerry Graham certainly was a major star who could draw, but his alcohol problems and weight issues destroyed his career.

f4wonline.com kirjoitti: Hall of Famer Fargo passes away

Jackie Fargo, who along with Jerry Lawler was one of the two biggest stars in the history of Tennessee wrestling, passed away this morning at the age of 82

He had been in critical condition for more than a week.

Fargo came to Tennessee as part the Fabulous Fargos tag team, with Don Kalt as brother Don. Fargo (Henry Faggart) was the legitimate brother of Sonny "Roughhouse" Fargo, who teamed with him on occasion and also refereed for Jim Crockett Promotions.

In a number of cities, including Memphis, Louisville, Chattanooga and Nashville, there was no bigger consistent weekly draw than Fargo in his prime, which peaked as far as star power went in the early 70s.

A later generation of fans in Tennessee would remember him as the man who brought The Fabulous Ones (Stan Lane & Steve Keirn; and a later unsuccessful remake of Eddie Gilbert & Tommy Rich) into Tennessee as their spiritual adviser. He remained someone who could increase the house for special appearances once or twice a year well into the 90s.

Fargo would have turned 83 on Wednesday.

Fargo was inducted in the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame in 1996.

Briscoen veljet, joista Jay on vieläpä hallitseva maailmanmestari, ovat jättäneet Ring of Honorin.
PWInsider kirjoitti:ROH champion Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe have both wrestled their final matches for Ring of Honor, possibly for good.

As we broke on Monday in the PWInsider Elite section, Ring of Honor ran an angle over the weekend where Jay Briscoe was beaten down by SCUM, writing him out of the promotion. Mark Briscoe was written out with the story being that he was injured wrestling Jay at the Best in the World iPPV.

The exit had been the planned departure for the brothers for some time and pre-dated the Jay Briscoe Twitter debacle from a month ago. It was not something rushed at the last second and was planned prior to Jay winning the ROH title over Wrestlemania weekend.

The implication from different sources is that Briscoe vs. Briscoe taking place in Baltimore (not far from their hometown in Delaware, with TONS of family members in attendance) was designed to be something of a send-off for the pair, who have been with the promotion since their first event in February 2002. This past weekend's ROH TV was entirely dedicated to the brothers as well.

With WWE hiring so many new talents in advance of their WWE Performance Center opening on 7/8, the initial belief among ROH talents was that the Briscoes had finished with ROH en route to signing a WWE deal. WWE sources have stated no deal is on the table, but admitted there was past interest. It's possible the Briscoe Twitter issues may have led to WWE pulling back on that interest, given the magnifying glass the company is under politically, but no one has definitively told me that.

As noted on Monday in the Elite section, at the very least, the brothers are taking a hiatus from the company and will not be back anytime in the near future. They are not currently figured into any short-term plans for ROH, although that obviously could change at any time.

As of today, the Briscoes are not under ROH contract. That said, should they not sign elsewhere, it stands to reason that at some point they will be back in some capacity. Both Briscoes have long stated that being around to see their children grow up was of the utmost importance to them, something that the insanity of a WWE schedule would not allow as much freedom to do in comparison to working for ROH. They are pretty much legends within the company and can walk back in for a top position at whim.

The current status of the ROH title is also up in the air. ROH sources remain tight-lipped on the belt, but if Jay Briscoe isn't figured into the current plans, obviously the promotion will have to do something. A tournament to crown a new champion seems to be most likely, but that would also break the lineage of the belt for the first time since Low Ki won the championship in June 2002. With ROH TV taped through late July, the promotion will be in no rush to address that situation, since it won't have played out to their TV viewers until then. A lot can change in that much time, but as of now, it would appear we've seen Jay Briscoe's last ROH title defense.

ROH sources indicate they have remained in contact with the Briscoes and all relations between the two sides is 100% amicable. There is absolutely no heat between the two sides, at all.
TNA on palkannut WWE:n entisen tv-tuotantopomon omaksi tv-tuotantopomokseen. Saa nähdä, huomaako gurun kädenjäljen pian Impactien yleisilmeessä.
PWInsider kirjoitti:TNA announced the following today. John "Big" Gaburick had been a key member of WWE's production department for over a decade before leaving recently.

JOHN GABURICK NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT TELEVISION PRODUCTION TNA ENTERTAINMENT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 27, 2013) – John Gaburick has been named Executive Vice President of Television Production for TNA Entertainment effective immediately. Gaburick is an accomplished production executive who joins TNA from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where he served as Vice President of Television Production. The announcement was made today by President Dixie Carter, to whom he will report. In his new role, Gaburick will oversee management and production of TNA Entertainment television including LIVE IMPACT Wrestling, marketing and advertising production, special projects and digital assets.

“As TNA evolves, John’s award-winning creative vision and production expertise coupled with his sports and entertainment industry business savvy make him the perfect person to push us in new directions,” said Carter. “He is a gifted and innovative storyteller, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”

“I’ve always admired Dixie Carter and TNA as a uniquely dynamic and growing organization,” said Gaburick. “This opportunity marks an exciting new challenge for me, and I am honored to join the team.”

Prior to joining TNA Entertainment, Gaburick spent the past 13 years in production at WWE. While there, he was awarded the PROMAX/BDA Brandbuilder of the Year Award and guided all image and brand-building media campaigns, as well as network documentary programming. Additionally, he spent 10 years as Operations Manager for National Business Archives in Jessup, Maryland. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Towson University in Towson, Maryland and is a proud member of The Towson University Athletic Hall of Fame. He will be relocating to Nashville with his wife and two young children.
PWInsider kirjoitti:As Dave noted earlier on the site, TNA has hired former WWE Exec John "Big" Gaburick to come on board as Executive Vice President of Television Production.

The word making the rounds in Nashville is that Gaburick will be replacing Kevin Sullivan, who had held the positions of Executive Producer and Vice President of Production, having been with TNA since August 2005.

Gaburick will be absorbing Sullivan's duties, but will also be working with greater responsibilities than Sullivan had been required to handle, as well.

Viimeisimmällä kerralla syyksi annettiin tuo legendaarinen "Cosmetically not pleasing". TNA:lle olisi kyllä kultainen tilaisuus nostaa joukkuedivisiionan tasoa hujauksella varsinkin, jos hankkisivat pari muutakin tiimiä. Sen verran sanottakoon, että Young Bucks eli Generation ME esiintyy ilmeisesti seuraavassa One night onlyssa. Ainakin kortissa oli nimet.

En onnistu jostain syystä kopioimaan kännyllä alkuperäistä uutista, mutta se ihan alkuperäinen Doink The Clown eli Matt Osborne on löydetty kuolleena.

Thirty years after Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka's mistress was rushed from the pro wrestler's Whitehall Township motel room with a fatal head injury, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said his office will "take a fresh look" at the case to decide if a grand jury investigation is warranted.

Despite having doubts about whether the case can be advanced three decades later, Martin confirmed Friday that he has asked Chief Deputy District Attorney Charles Gallagher to review the file on Nancy Argentino's death.

Once the review is complete, Martin, Gallagher and county Detective Gerry Procanyn, a former Whitehall detective who was in the motel room when Argentino was hurried to the hospital, will discuss "if there's anything to be gained by opening a grand jury investigation," Martin said.

The decision comes less than three weeks after The Morning Call published a story about Argentino's death, revealing an autopsy report and police interviews that had never been seen by the public.

Argentino, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died of traumatic brain injuries consistent with a moving head striking a stationary object, according to the autopsy. Autopsy findings show Argentino suffered more than two dozen cuts and bruises — a possible sign of "mate abuse" — on her head, ear, chin, arms, hands, back, buttocks, legs and feet.

Forensic pathologist Isidore Mihalakis wrote the case should be investigated as a homicide until proved otherwise.

Snuka originally told at least five people, including the responding police officer, he shoved Argentino, causing her to fall and hit her head, according to police interviews obtained by The Morning Call. He later told police he was misunderstood and Argentino slipped and hit her head when they stopped along the highway to go to the bathroom.

Snuka, the only person of interest in the investigation, was questioned but never charged. The case was never closed.

Snuka's third wife, Carole Snuka, said Jimmy Snuka, now 70 and living in New Jersey, doesn't want to comment on Martin's decision to re-examine the case. The family read The Morning Call story this month, and she said the wrestling icon "doesn't really want to do this with the newspapers."

Carole Snuka wouldn't comment extensively on Martin's decision.

"If that's what they want to do, that's what they want to do," she said politely, in a soft voice.

Martin said he decided to revisit the case after receiving a letter from Argentino's two sisters and speaking with one of them, Louise Argentino-Upham, on Thursday.

While he promised to revisit the case, Martin said he didn't want to build any false expectations. Martin, who was not district attorney at the time of the investigation, has doubts that "there's anything to be gained" by taking a new look at the case because "quite frankly, it's all been done," he said.

"It hasn't improved with age," Martin said of the case.

The Argentino family believes then-District Attorney William H. Platt had a solid case but failed to push the investigation further. Platt has previously said he doesn't think it's appropriate to discuss the case.

On Friday, the family said revisiting the case is an appropriate and logical step for Martin to take.

"When someone has conflicted stories like that and the girl has bruises all over her body … come on, please," Argentino-Upham said.

Gallagher, who worked for 35 years in the Philadelphia district attorney's office before being hired by Martin, handles grand jury investigations for Lehigh County. During grand jury investigations, prosecutors present evidence to citizens to see if charges against someone are appropriate. The target of the investigation and his or her attorney are not involved and the proceedings are closed to the public and kept secret.

The original investigation effectively went cold on June 1, 1983, after prosecutors met with Snuka and World Wrestling Federation mogul Vince McMahon in the district attorney's office law library. There's no record of what was said during that meeting.

Argentino was rushed out of Snuka's George Washington Motor Lodge motel room — now the site of Home Depot along MacArthur Road and Route 22 — on May 10, 1983. Snuka, a married man, had returned from a World Wrestling Federation taping at the Allentown Fairgrounds to find Argentino gasping for air and oozing yellow fluid from her mouth and nose.

Argentino was declared dead hours later at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

In his autobiography, Snuka maintains his innocence and said Argentino's death ruined his life.

"Many terrible things have been written about me hurting Nancy and being responsible for her death, but they are not true," he wrote. "This has been very hard on me and very hard on my family. To this day, I get nasty notes and threats. It hurts. I never hit Nancy or threatened her."
Less than four months before Argentino died, Snuka was charged with assaulting her in a New York motel. Police say he also battled with responding police. He was charged with second- and third-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration but accepted a plea deal that dropped all of those charges in exchange for pleading guilty to harassment in April 1983.

Argentino swore in a deposition after the alleged assault that Snuka never hit her or intentionally harmed her.

Snuka and Argentino were the only two in the Whitehall motel room in May 1983, records say. In 1985, the Argentino family won a $500,000 wrongful death lawsuit against Snuka. Claiming he was broke and couldn't afford a legal defense, Snuka never paid.

Despite Snuka's claim that Argentino hit her head along the road, the autopsy showed she had no gravel or similar dirt particles on her head or scalp.

"The clear-cut forensics weren't there, but the suspicion was there," Mihalakis recently told The Morning Call about the initial investigation. "I did not have a clear-cut case. It was a very worrisome case. Obviously, there was enough there to arouse my suspicion but not enough to take it to trial. ... Just because she was beaten doesn't mean she was beaten to death."

Varmasti poistetaan ainakin Hall of Famesta.

- As seen on last night’s RAW, WWE included current TNA star Sting in their video packages looking back at former World Heavyweight Champions.

F4Wonline.com reports that Sting was included in those video packages for a reason.

Word is that Sting is once again interested in joining WWE. While he hasn’t opened direct negotiations with the company, he has sent feelers to WWE about joining them. There is said to be a lot of confidence on WWE’s side that Sting will be on their roster eventually.

No vielä pitäisi tietää ravintolan hintataso, mitä juotiin jne. jne.
